As a standard practice, the examiners at DDS will send you a letter that says in the process will take between 90 to 120 days. Because the Social Security Administration does not process your claim, they have no information about your application or where it is in the process.

 

The examiner knows exactly where you are in the process – they’re the ones that can best provide this information. Examiners who receive phone calls about a particular application will generally pay more attention to that particular case – just to avoid more phone calls.

 

What DDS Does.

 

There are several things that the examiner will do. They will send many detailed letters to hospitals, doctors and clinics attempting to get as much information about the case as possible. They may make calls to the claimant’s family, friends and relatives. The may make phone calls to medical specialists. Even after all of this, DDS may send the applicant to a medical examination paid for by the DDS so that DDS may obtain more information about your claim. After all of the information is gathered, a decision is made. For many people, this marks the beginning of the appeals process.
