What You Need to Know About SSI Wage Reporting

When you collecting Supplemental Security Income, or SSI, It’s imperative that you report your wages. This has to be done in order to prevent either overpayments or underpayments from happening. SSI is a program that provides wages to people who are disabled, aged or blind. The amount you receive is based partially on how much income is available to you. You need to report your wages in order to make sure you’re receiving the right amount.

How to report your wages:

  • Go into your Social Security Office.
  • You can report your wages by going in person to your local Social Security Office. Go here to find the one nearest you.
  • Call your local Social Security Office or use the free SSI Mobile Wage Reporting Smartphone app.

You can use your phone to call toll-free and use the SSI Telephone Wage Reporting Service to report your wages. You can call this service yourself or someone else can call on your behalf. This includes certain beneficiaries, parents, spouses and representative payees. This will allow you to report the total gross monthly wages for the month prior.

You are also able to use the SSI Mobile Wage Reporting application. This allows you to report the total gross monthly wages of the prior month through the mobile application. This is a free application and available on both Apple and Android devices.

Both of these are only for certain individuals. You need to contact your Social Security Office to see which option is the best one in your case. The office will then give you instructions for how to use either one.

If you can use one of these services, you will need your Social Security number of the person reporting wages, the Social Security number of the one who earned these wages, the total monthly gross wages and the name of the caller.

Write into your local Social Security Office.

You can write a letter to your Social Security Office, but this is by far the method that is going to take the longest time. You are better off calling if you cannot go in person.

It’s important to report your wages early in the month. Ideally, this should be done within the first six days of the month.
